slow day

It is unforgiveably slow here today, so I thought I'd update my blog. Now, I could tell you about seeing Condi Rice, Harriet Myers and Andy Card in the White House, or I could tell you that Reva is coming to visit.

Apparently she's coming up this weekend with a couple friends who also have friends up here to see. I haven't a clue what we're going to do, but I'm pretty sure magaritas are involved somewhere. And the Spy Museum. Possibly the panda cub.

And she just found out today she'll be working in the Pentagon this summer. Coolness abounds.

Will I be here this summer? No telling. My paperwork was extended so I'm here at DOE for sure until April 1st.

Validation

I made that blue binder in front of Sec. Bodman (he's testifying before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in that picture). Its a briefing book that gives him the most up to date information about the programs in the department, what they're doing, what they're spending money on, etc. We referred to that one as "the skinny book", because it was only 120 pages of the most key issues likely to be raised in the hearing, as opposed to the full book we gave him, which was over 400. There are five committee hearings for the DOE budget, that was just the first. He testifies before House Science and Senate Armed Services this week, and we gave him 2 books tailored to each committee on Friday. Three down, two to go.

My boss, who is awesome, can be seen over the Secretary's left shoulder. Well, you can see her hair anyway.

I'm still alive

Sorry to all five of you who read this. I've been swamped at work and haven't been updating like I should. Even now I can't post much, so I'll hit the main points.

I moved off of Liz and Valerie's couch to my own room in Maryland. They call it the ghetto. I call it home.

Got to tour the West Wing. Its much smaller than you'd imagine. Marine One landed while we were next to the Situation Room. Condi and Andy Card walked by. I practically bumped into Harriet Myers. More on that later.

Still no other job yet.

I have ambitions for this spring/summer: take the Foreign Officer service exam, apply to grad school in the UK. Take lots of pictures.
