Nine ate seven

They drew for high cards. Nine of clubs beat the seven of spades. Yes, this is how they determined one of my dad's bosses.

Excuse me?

I drove my parents to Oakland International yesterday, they were flying to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary, and I decided to come the extra 10 miles to spend some time in Berkeley. I’m walking around here less than a day when someone pulls over on Fulton to ask me for directions. The whole time I was at Cal (yes, all five years) I don’t think a week went by when someone didn’t stop me to ask for directions, either on campus or the surrounding streets. I figured this was normal, but an informal survey told me otherwise. I don’t understand this. If you’ve driven with me, you know I have to budget an extra 10-20% of the trip’s expected time to account for getting lost and finding my way again. I’m the worst person to get directions from, why do I get asked so often?

I can't make this stuff up

In the last election two candidates for a seat on the Waterford Unified School Board have tied at 711 votes each. To decide who gets elected, the candidates must either flip a coin or play high card.

This also happened in the last mayor's race.

BTW

I don't have TB. I know you were worried. I got the X-ray results back, but a day later than I should have. Atwater being what it is, they had to send the X-ray prints to the next city over to have them read, and the results had to be sent back to Atwater. The doctor's office got them on time, but lost (yes, lost) my patient file.

There comes a point when this sort of thing amuses you. I'm not there yet.

...I'm Schmidt!

Boston Legal is the best show ever. Well, not ever. The West Wing and Law and Order and ER still rank above it, but all are pulling a Toby Keith right now (you know, not as good as they once were, which isn't to say Toby Keith isn't as good as he once was, it's just his latest hit, so really they're pulling a Garth Brooks, you know, much too young to feel that damn old), and Boston Legal is kicking major tookus. It's so good it's worth putting up with Commander in Chief as the lead in.

The ensamble cast can't be matched. James Spader and Billy Shatner are comedic gold, Candice Bergman is sublime, Julie Bowen would be half the reason to watch a lesser show and Mark Valley had me pissed Keen Eddie got canceled. And through all the baudiness there's always something touching and something poignant.

Now I want to work at Crane, Poole & Schmidt.

oh come on

Last Tuesday I went in to get the TB test done. They injected me with who knows what and told me to come back on Friday. When I came back they measured the little red spot around where they had injected me and determined that I have tuberculosis. Maybe. I had to go get a chest X-ray done immediately just to make sure. But this being the central valley, it won't be read until tomorrow. I feel fine, btw. This better not keep me from working.

The last time I produced a false positive the Red Cross thought I had syphilis.

I hate this state

California is like the idiot who won't take the medicine their doctor is prescribing and complains that the doctor isn't making them well.

wierd school districts

In order to be a substitute teacher I have to get a test to make sure I don't have TB. What is this, the wild wild west? I wonder if they know Oregon Trail is just a game.
